To prevent squirrels from accessing a tree, which method is not recommended?

Using shiny objects in a tree to deter squirrels is not a recommended method because while it may provide a temporary distraction, it does not create a physical barrier or significantly inhibit their ability to climb or access the tree. Squirrels are agile climbers and can easily navigate around or over shiny items. Such deterrents may not be long-lasting or effective, as squirrels can become accustomed to them.

In contrast, the other methods listed are effective for preventing squirrel access. Attaching a wide metal band around the trunk creates a smooth surface that is difficult for them to climb. Trimming limbs that are too close to adjacent trees prevents squirrels from using neighboring trees as a jumping point. Removing lower branches makes it harder for them to reach the trunk and ascend.
